A Deeper Love

2006 - date

A homage to the sweaty euphoria of finding (and losing) yourself in secret underground LGBTQ club nights, ‘A Deeper Love' is a long term documentary project exploring queer spaces in the north of England.

Moving to Manchester and exploring the city’s gay scene was liberating, a double drop of coming out and coming up. A night called HomoElectric in particular - a “non-stop exotic disco for homos, heteros, lesbos and don’t knows” - at times felt like a transcendental initiation into the art of clubbing, and always made me feel like I’d found my tribe. It inspired me to pick up a camera and document the outrageous, no-fucks-given, back street palaces of sexuality and sass.

The project includes images from nights such as Club Brenda, HomoElectric, Flesh, bars and clubs in Manchester’s gay village, as well as various Pride events around the UK.

The title comes from C&C Music Factory's hit single, 'Pride: A Deeper Love', a song with deep resonances for the international queer community.
