Henrietta Street

My house is being sold tomorrow. I spent a few minutes photographing my bedroom while I was waiting for the house clearance men to come and take away the furniture I don’t want. The strange thing is that having lived at 14 Henrietta Street for just over 10 years, I’ve hardly any pictures to show for it. The complicated web of my life as I drifted in and out of short-lived plans hasn’t been documented in any way, shape or form. As I was taking pictures of the room I’ve loved to wake up in every morning for what now feels like forever, I finally understood why I need photography – capturing the feeling of a moment so it can’t be lost is something I’ve tried to do since my family split as a child. Clinging on to Henrietta Street though would be like clinging on to a mind full of distractions and a mouthful of unfinished sentences. Time to shut the door, and move on.
