Southern Daily Echo

I got my ideal job with a local paper in June 2014 – just in the nick of time. The Southampton office of the Southern Daily Echo used to have 14 photographers – now it has two. So I was well aware the role probably wouldn’t last, as local papers across the country sack photographers in favour of ‘user generated content,’ ie free pictures.
Instead of being made redundant in the last ‘cull’ however, in October last year I was offered an alternative role as multimedia reporter, so now I’m training in shorthand and media law, still using my photography skills but writing more.

Here are some of my pics from stories I worked on as a photographer.
