A brief trip back up to Manchester for the Easter weekend meant I could look in on a clubnight I used to love – Homoelectric. Since its former venue Legends has been demolished, it now takes over various Manchester haunts, and this one was at the severely delapidated Antwerpt Mansion, slap bang in the middle of the curry mile. It’s great to get the culture clash of drag queens in outrageous outfits staggering about the back streets while asian boys style it out on the bonnets of their shiny cars. It felt like the floor of the main room would collapse at any time – either that or the roof would lift off with Jamie Bull’s disco tunes.
It was great to get a slug of proper back street gay clubbing, after the south coast’s decidedly more suburban nightlife. Although those cans of Red Stripe seem to last far longer than they used to.
